Peter M Haas
Bio:
Peter M. Haas is a professor of political science at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He received a Ph.D in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has published extensively on international environmental subjects, including pollution control in the Mediterranean, pollution control in the Baltic and North Seas, UNEP’s regional seas programs, stratospheric ozone protection, and international environmental institutions. He has also published works on international relations theory, focusing on the interplay between knowledge and power in international policy coordination.
He has consulted for The Commission on Global Governance, the United Nations Environment Programme, United States Department of State, United States Environmental Protection Agency, United States National Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the World Resources Institute. He has received grants from the National Science Foundation, German Marshall Fund, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Institute for the Study of World Politics, and the Gallatin Foundation.
He is the author of Saving the Mediterranean: The Politics of International Environmental Cooperation (1990, Columbia University Press), an edited special issue of International Organization on “Knowledge, Power and International Policy Coordination” (Vol 46 No 1, January 1992), and (edited with Robert O. Keohane and Marc A. Levy) Institutions for the Earth: Sources of Effective International Environmental Protection (MIT Press, 1993), as well as 13 articles in journals such as International Organization, Millennium, Global Governance, Environment, Environmental Conservation, and Global Environmental Change, and 14 chapters in 11 edited volumes.
